300 is actually a little closer to the real story than Troy
;D
Go for it if you like well oiled men wearing next to nothing jumping up and down and chopping heads off!

I so enjoyed this review.... ;D enjoyment.independent.co.uk/film/reviews/article2382024.ecejust an example But, for all its martial grandeur, it becomes increasingly difficult not to regard this as a clothes movie. The most fun anyone has here is the costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, who dresses the Spartans in the simple but attention-grabbing kit of scarlet cloaks and black leggings, allowing a clear view of each man's pecs and killer six-pack. The Persians go even further into camp; Xerxes himself is an epicene baldie who wears more bling than Elton John at his birthday party, and his gold facial piercings are just to die for. His elite guards go into battle wearing silver masks reminiscent of those Bafta trophies, which might be wishful thinking on the film-makers' part.

if u'r looking for wargasm, i guess u'll find it here..but i think after gangs of new york and 3 lord of the rings and other gore war films..nothing could faze u anymore.
this is fun to watch but dont look for a real story in this or serious acting. cinematography is great, quite interesting especially since it's only made in blue screen.
the stop-start shots during fighting kinda make u feel like u'r really watching it from a comic book..u take in the detail (of the gore) and still see the whole picture...dunno how to xplain it but it's pretty much like really watching a comic book.
seriously though, im sorry if i have double standards, but really, watching men in their black undies and a red cape??.......at the same time trying to look serious...well it's hilarious:))
cant help but feel like it's a D&G or calvin kelin ad....im not complaining though, as i said it was fun to watch.
was kinda creepy watching it here though coz there was a scene where the queen was raped..sort of...and the guys in the theater started cheering.
the movie has kinda some iraq war innuendos...but im a girl so is prolly just my imagination:))

Yeah it was strange, watching the reaction of the audience. They started clapping when Leonidas killed the monster, when the queen was raped, and when she killed her rapist!
I couldn't understand that at all.

There's only one restaurant in Dubai that I would recommend: The Fish Market (or is it Fish Village) at Le Meridien.
Bur Dubai has a number of restaurants in most major buildings and there's a shopping centre near the Citibank that has a decent variety of lunch options. Stay away from the chinese restaurant on the corner of Khaled bin Zayed (facing York Hotel) though - it's crappy and far from authentic.
The Imperial Suites (also in Bur Dubai) has a reasonable tex-mex restaurant, but then again Imperial Suites also had one of the better bifferies in the days before Cyclone.

the lebanese bakery is near karama area, near the post office i think...on your way to the main road going to sheikh zayed...thereabouts...just that it's near karama area, drive by there at night, ur nose will lead you to the place.
theres a good chinese restaurant in deira, but i cant remember the place, it is beside that al tazaj fakieh bbq chicken...it's at the 'back' portion of deira.
bur dubai....try driving by there on a weekend, at 2-3 am when bars are closing....it's interesting. saw a parking lot full of exotic looking women bartering/bargaining for 'business'. when we drove by there for the first time, saw lots of women of various nationalities all dressed up and in stilletto heels. but when the cops came.....forget about poise or breaking your ankles, the women started running like athletes:))

it's supposed to be 2hrs, but it was actually a bit shorter. Some kind of heavy director's cut.

Or maybe it is the censorship cutting all the 'inappropriate' scenes?

Maybe they didn't want the women to ogle all those good-looking-almost-nude men for such a long time! Jealousy!!!

You mean it turned into a 'Scandalous Road Trip??!!??' Oh, even I heard that it was too hot and the AC's went bad. Didn't know that it was because of all the guys ... I thought the theatre would be full of women! Hope they got the ACs repaired by now ... plan to watch it tomm evening!

it'd be interesting to see if people would still bring their mobiles with them

I wonder what would be the dress code for women. Mobiles would be a strict No-No ... Imagine the great warriors answering phone calls in the middle of the battle or their sweaty scenes!

could come in handy you know...before the battle starts, reps from the two armies could use SMS to ask each other to surrender, rather than do it in person, as is the normal practice
