COME OUT FOR DTFF!!

DTFF kicked off the other night, but it just started for us last night! Hope a lot of people go out and check out the movies, there's a lot of movies for viewing, im sure you'll find at least one to your liking!

I would suggest you go and check out movies that are not hollywood made - not for anything else other than those are easier to access - it's a festival! only comes once a year so take advantage of stuff that are not here year round!!!

I dont like the DTFF catch phrase this year "I AM FILM" coz it sounded like..i dunno, bad grammar trying to get mainstream....I mean, countrygrammar has already been done by the likes of Nelly, non? yeh the rapper!

anyhooooooo....just an update, seems more relaxed this year than last! I saw the guy who kept shouting last year "CAPITALISM!? CAPITALISM!?" or "DO YOU HAVE TICKETS!?! DO YOU HAVE TICKETS!?" - he seems more pre-occupied with his headset and mic now.

well it is still a working day and it coincided again with the women's tennis so crowd is pretty split! but we caught Out of Law last night at 10pm and theater is pretty much fully occupied. I didnt like that movie much, it felt like it ran for more than 2 hours yet ironically, for that much time, i didnt find the characters well developed enough to be interesting...it was ok, the theme is a good subject, would have been epic but the movie was...meh. i thought it was a pussy movie!aheeeeeeeeee!!!!

But try and not to miss Incendie....though i suggest you go watch Southpark first, that episode where Cartman was looking for his father, before you go check this one out!

i remember when we used to whine that since moving here, we only seem to have a selection of mainstream movies available to us. actually, since living here, we ended up more actively seeking alternative films that are as good as the commercial ones though weary it could veer on pretentious grounds......but actually, no - we found films that are of great interests since moving here. and it's like my thoughts have been inceptioned!HAH! Whenever i wish for something here, they actually seem to happen..or try to! case in point.....the movie festival, it is such a great treat!

a lot of the movies screened on the first DTFF went on to get nominated in prestigious award ceremonies....by prestigious i mean fuss. award giving bodies that we hype up. i am not so much into the award body itself, but with the list of nominees. there is sooooo much movies available everywhere so if you're looking for a good one, going through the nominees list is a good start...then venture out to those that didnt get nominated but should have...so there's additional number of movies for you to check out.

and now oscar is near and two of the movies screened here are nominated for best foreign film: Incendies and Outside the Law. and we saw it here in Doha. hah! +10 points for Doha:P
