Hermitage according to my friend wiki means a place of relaxing retreat, a religious retreat, a hermits home...or a type of grape, an asteroid, or various places, institutions around the world - obviously someone gets a kick out of this word. but i dont mean any of those. this post here is HERMIT-AGE more appropriately.
it is the age of becoming a hermit... my period where i physically remove myself from the rest of the population outside my husband and 5 friends. i bid adieu to actual social physical contact. before i went for holidays 2 months ago, knowing that a number of people we know are or might be leaving, i thought i'd stop bothering meeting people at all. afterall, now that i am working from home, there's no inevitable necessity to socialize or bump into people and remind myself of the 5th commandment. other than my husband, seems only cashiers and waiters are the only other human form i have to speak with. oh we also have friends but we only see them weekends...hmm....then there were those property agents....and people in the elevator...and random strangers i invited for lunch...sheeeshhhh this isnt working already now that i think about it!
anyways, well the plan was social isolation, i thought it's novel - i will only spend my time with my work, reading, music, movie and tv, and emails to friends. But apparently, this is not new to me. my husband said i get this way from March to May each year.....dummmit!
seems as soon as i write down something, it disappears.
it is fun though ;D well obviously it's not the bungee jump kind of fun. but it will give you more time to be just by yourself, minimal distractions, and usually just distractions of your own liking. activity will just consist of writing and reading....ive almost watched the entire episodes of boston legal anyways...and House is on hiatus and already got the girl...and gossip girl...well it has already taken itself too seriously.
ON WRITING.
It is good therapy for whatever ails you except of course if you have a bad case of hand arthritis. but think about it...students from Freedom writers did it, Precious did it and it helped them heaps...fortunately, i dont have the same situation as they have...but still! When you write, you start observing, you start giving meaning to things....sure if you take that too far it can land you in the loony bin as paranoid and schizophrenic but there you go! you explored! but at least you made your brain, eyes and hands work together...and didnt people say one should promote cooperation? and where else is the best place to start but with yourself!
writing is also giving voice to your conscience...as what old wise folks call them. stuff that you dont usually think or talk about, sometimes come out in writing, you start to second guess yourself and see things from different angles. sure you second guess yourself too much you end up accomplishing nothing, but it is nice to have those dramatic pauses...couple that with your forefinger tapping your chin....ding!ding!ding! Sometimes, however, this is what your psychiatrist might refer to as your psychotic self. but so what, right? the more, the merrier!
you write, it gives you an opportunity to question...of course if you do it online you have to be careful where you are and what you question, unless you dont mind your butt getting renditioned, you can pretty much question whatever. still, online, be careful, coz some people like to give answers as well. sometimes people forget that online, when someone writes something that does not agree with them, they can move along and not fuel the stupidity....really, cant we just get along and treat each other as monumental rhetorics? it is easy really, just google yourself. or poke someone. or take care of your farm or your pets or whatever or post your vacation pics! get that stick out of your butt!
