"There Once Lived a Woman Who Tried to Kill Her Neighbor's Baby: Fairy Tales" Now that's a book title you kinda hope you don't find in your new neighbor's book collection especially if you've just given birth to a child. but no, it's not just about the title alone, there's more and interestingly more. creepy crazy stories. Written by a russian writer who apparently was once banned from being published by her own country because of apparent allegories to their communist lives pre-yeltsin. it's a collection of short stories that will take you back to your twilight zone days...and yes that's the complete title. It is not available here yet because if you've noticed, Virgin here does not seem to have the same amount of books they used to have. seen the shelves there lately? it's depressing. anyhoo, you can get this online and will be scaring myself sh#tless this coming vacation.....commencing...2 days! wahooooooo!!! so back to the book, there's the complete first short story (main title) posted somewhere online that you can read if you want to have a taste of it first before getting your own copy. neil gayman's fans might enjoy it. well, even if you're not, grab it anyways so we can both giggle about it.

if i had done drugs (yes, my posts here are all pure and natural!), this type of short stories is what i would be coming up with. to read the book in one sitting is akin to having hallucinatory experiences yourself. read the book and you wont even have to pretend you are freebasing - seriously, the russia's communist regime chemically altered the writer's mental state - crazy genius.
dont take the book with you if you are going out with friends who have kids... and yes, no address was given out in the book ;D

Thanks for the recommendations! Will get cracking on some of these *on amazon.fr pronto*... I found Suite Francaise all right but not more; Nemirovsky apparently had a talk at Shakespeare and Co, too bad I missed it... I have Tales from a Traveling Couch but haven't started on it yet.
I have given myself a few months off from Holocaust-related books for the meantime though.

btw, have you read life of pi? every one was talking about it when it first came out so i didnt read it then!lol! then it got recommended by someone i know who is depressed so i stayed away from it again. but last year, towards the time i was bracing myself for social isolation i finally read it and it's good. but i only would read it in the tub for full effect - the character was aloft in the sea for months and in spirit of solidarity, i would only read it while in the tub! well, suffice it to say my skin got quite prune like and it took a lot of baths to finish the book, but i was worth it. however, i wouldnt read another book again with a tiger for a while. theres something about tigers and me really. i remember not looking at anymore animal movies after seeing born free - that has elsa the tiger in it...i mean even winnie the pooh i couldnt bear after born free! but check that book out also if you're in a happier mood.

Ah, then it was probably ABOUT nemirovsky! Or was it some other author? Was I dreaming?
Yea, I've read Life of Pi.. I remember Clo pointed it out to you from my bookshelf! It was a good one, but I wasn't gaga over it either. There's this book called White Tiger that I really liked, but it doesn't involve tigers. Hehehe.

id suggest you read travelling couch once you're in abayaland....it will make feel a little sane....and i think it's a good read for young moms too, at least for advise on how you can drive your children nuts both knowingly and unknowingly . i swear you'd think your mom is a saint after some tales from this book!
what else books you have these times?
