I just saw the docu "Food Inc." and now i'm confused. i dont know what to eat
do you know where your food comes from? do you know who makes them? do you know how? do you know how many companies are involved in producing the food you eat?
we're not talking just hygiene here but something more disturbing. principle. greed.
watching this film my reaction went from: awww.....wow gross... to..........WHAAAAAAATTT!?!!? WWWWWWWWWWTTTTTTTFFFFFF!?!
2nd reaction: Those guys i so admire in the docu The Cove, campaigning against the slaughter of 23,000 dophins a year better not be eating stuff from big industries or even as much as sniffing any burgers.
3rd reaction: I cant listen to you preach about goodness, kindness, respect and freedom if you eat pizza and burgers from fastfood chains. you don't have street cred.
of course to a point those reactions are stupid but.....thats the honest to gut my reaction free of philosopizing.
but maannnnn......was i dumb and ignorant about a lot of things.
did you know that it's a felony and you could get in jail for criticising ground meat in colorado?
did you know that it's illegal to publish a photo of any industrial food operation in US?
did you know that there's a so called "cheeseburger bill" that makes it difficult for people in US to sue certain food industries even if they die from eating their food?
when's the last time you read up on e. coli and what it's about? no, not the basic e. coli, read up again.
have you heard of Monsanto? i have nothing nice to say about them right now, im sure ive had a number of the results of their company in the food ive eaten but go read about them and this:
www.worc.org/userfiles/Understanding%20Monsanto%27s%20Technology%20Use%20Agreement%202-06.pdf
apparently, they are dubbed as microsoft of seeds. in a too simplistic form, once farmers start using their seeds, farmers cant keep/plant their own seeds as it is considered illegal and an infringement on that company's patent rights.....etc...aarrgghhh!! i cant go on, read more on, it's the stuff bag ladies used to rave about in the 70s/80s!
im sure there are two sides to the stories and blah blah blah but im pretty sure the guys who made this docu would have been in jail by now if there's not a grain of truth to any of the subjects discussed. but that's just one step in the ladder. the point is to try to read more, learn more, be more aware of things.
i feel bad coz i like food and i used to eat a lot of those stuff ive seen....and as it is i still havent gone beyond the first 10 pages of the book Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, reading it and its supplementary readings sometimes makes me want to check if im wearing a tinfoil hat already, but i think i will go to it now after this post.
my mother in law is often teased about being a little communist, hippie or something.....she has products that she boycotts and does not pick up from the grocery store. she buys fresh produce from farmers as much as she can, has an extra fridge and a freezer to properly store stuff. she gets food in season and cooks around it. it's not a fad, being a "hippie" or whatever, she's an educated doctor and really believe in certain things that are right. she has not even seen or maybe even heard of this docu. she does not preach and act hoity toity. she just quietly does her stuff. Thinking about her practices more, it makes sense. it's about making the right choices and learning stuff behind slogans.
go watch this film, it's educational. i wish docus like this are included in high school and university curriculums.
it makes sense.
now i wonder what i can eat when i finish my lemon-cayenne detox....yes i started again last sunday and after this sunday, im not sure what i can eat to celebrate!!fug!
