Hurt locker kinda made a sweep in major categories......
best picture (over....basterds, precious, serious man, avatar, district 9), best editing (over pretty much the same choices more or less), screenplay (over the same choices etc etc). it's not a bad film but it wasnt that great either!!! the only thing that would have calmed me down a bit is if all hurt locker winners received their awards wearing a bomb suit.
in other categories that i was looking out for, best foreign film went to Secret in their eyes - must be good, i've not yet seen it, but it won over the other films that we've seen: un prophete, white ribbon and the potato movie - and these are good films - yes, except for potato, they are way better than hurt locker....yeh yeh i know
The cove won!!for best documentary - would really recommend this one both for educational and entertainment reasons. i know that sounds bad considering it is also about the massacre of dolphins, but go watch it anyways - it is not just about the dolphin massacre, it's how a team was formed to get it filmed. i kinda feel bad for Burma VJ though, i mean....they practically risked not just dying but torture first before death, making it to this category. ive not seen that docu but im sure that will be interesting to see.
You know what, most of the films shown during Tribeca Film Festival here got nominated one way or another, in oscars and in other awards bodies - so kudos for tribeca doha for bringing here some memorable films and we only paid QR10 each to see
