Perfume - the story of a murderer (or something)

Is it just me, or did anyone else think this movie is awful?

The strange thing is that this movie has all the characteristics that I love! It's a period costume piece, it has horses in it, it is about perfumes and it's got Snape in it!

Yet, I hated it from the beginning to the end.

The guy just killed all those girls, and made the perfume, and then killed himself after a fashion. And the point is?
