In my experience, the expat americans ive met are usually more critical of their countries than those who rarely travel outside. What with the political atmosphere right now and loud discontent of some americans with their own president, country and whatnots i think this movie can pick you up a bit and make u feel proud to be americans again....at least until you get the president you want ;D
BOURNE ULTIMATUM.
not to get treacly n all but this is the better kind of feel good movie in a different level. it's like an upgrade of Mcgyver ... it's a thinking hero again at last! Reminds me of the accidental hero kind of movies by a younger harrison ford --- at a more kickass level. and what's even better, he thinks before he starts shitkicking. he even used a book to try to kill one of the villains! a book! how more intellectual can he get!!??!lol! no need for cheesy one-liners before he kills, not even a curse!lol! and on a more somber note, no glamorizing of the killing.
jason bourne is everything the craig james bond wants to be. sorry i have to bring that up but i cant help it! ;D he is. no fancy stuff 'round here, just great tension build up, real time in your face kind of cinematography that make the audience feel and see the film through the protagonist's or whoever's being chased's eyes. although the frenetic camera shots can get annoying at times coz you kno, i wanna kno exactly how he kicked his ass!...but it's all good ;D Aside from a good music score, great timing of musical score too. Remember when Matrix started the trend of action scenes with good loud manson, rock, house type of music? well this movie is not one of them. it's just a bass n drums build up interspersed with your own heartbeat to total silence in some scenes that makes it even more effective. there was a scene there that kinda reminds me of jackie chan movie, running through corridors and doors, dodging and ducking while Stiles was getting chased, i'd say thats the highlight of that movie for me...it was kicked off by one of the best motorcycle scenes ive seen so far too i wanna see it again!
something noticeable about this film also is how totally pro american i thought it is...or at least an antithesis of european peppered type of heroes on screen lately...it thrashed everything european although ironically it was mostly shot in europe. no ducatis here. no bmw's. there was an audi which he ditched in exchange for an NYPD car. they even killed anyone who has a foreign accent. And Moby was used to close off the scene again, not oakenfold. i thought it's totally pro american kim jong il will foam in the mouth after seeing this.
now for the bitter.....i dont wanna kno how he managed to get inside one of the most secured buildings in my lifetime without causing a ruckus not even from a janitor, and how rooms of big bosses of CIA can be clearly seen from the outside. maybe thats how americans protect their CIA offices, i dunno. there are things that are on a need to kno basis and this im in it for the ride in the movie.
it is nothing like i remembered the book at all but no complaints here. one of the better action films ive seen lately. ive nothing against die hard 4 and transformers of course, but it is just refreshing to see someone on screen who thinks ;D for the real old school and sentimental,i think jason bourne is your new john wayne. or dirty harry. whatever, i think he's right up there followed by jack bauer.
