I just finished reading ‘The Zahir’ by Paulo Coelho. Don’t read past this if you don’t want to know anything about this book OR if you don’t like to read anything that doesn’t have glossy pages and pictures OR has more than 20 pages of serious stuff.
“Zahir, in Arabic, means visible, present, incapable of going unnoticed. It is someone or something which, once we have come into contact with them or it, gradually occupies our every thought, until we can think of nothing else.” (Quoted from the foreword of the book).
All of us - at one point or another – have a Zahir in our life. The narrator of the story is a best-selling novelist who wakes up one day to find his wife - a war-correspondent has vanished without a clue! And then begins his obsession to find her. In the journey of being re-united with the lost-love he finds new meaning to everything in his life and eventually discovers his own self.
It’s a typical Paulo Coelho book – full of simple life lessons that we all know and yet somehow forget. Really easy to relate to the narrator in his obsession and quest to find the woman he loves. It’s also about facing and accepting who you are and what you are afraid of. Accepting your past and letting it go. This book takes you from the bustling city of Paris to the remote steppes of Kazakhstan in a journey of self-discovery.

Ok the most important question - did YOU like the book? I have read the first couple of chapters, but something held me back and I am considering to start again now. Is it worth it? I liked the Alchemist, I hope this one won't disappoint.

I loved the book and that's reason why I write the review! It's a little different from Alchemist. Focuses more on relationships. It's the simple words that Paulo Coelho uses that I love and this book is full of them. I would defintely ask you to consider starting once again.

Oh, I forgot to ask ... did you survived or did you hate the first few chapters of the book? If you did hate it then maybe you should stay away from it. I am just one of the loyal fans of Paulo Coelho.
