BLOOD DIAMOND

Anyone else seen the movie? i thought it's quite a powerful movie (full frontal abs shot notwithstanding and despite not so good reviews). though ive read some about it, im not really well read about conflict diamonds as the atrocities in civil war in sierra leone is enough to make your head swim. though they made clear in this movie that conflict diamonds are only about 1/3 (or sumsuch) of the entire diamond business, still i dont think i'd look at diamonds the same way again.

a lot of scenes in this movie can really make you cringe even if u've seen saving private ryan, tears of the sun, black hawk down a thousand times. although ive heard and read n watched clips about children as soldiers, it still didnt prepare me to watch kids in this film getting brainwashed to kill and be part of the atrocities. i like the cinematography of this film, the stark contrasts are very well depicted from sprawling spectacular landscapes to the ugliness of everything thats going on in there.

i wouldnt recommend you watch it if u'r stressed or not had enough sleep. women in a long term relationship at the moment be wary if your beau asks you to see this movie.......that sound you hear is the collective sigh of men who will now have more money to spend on gadgets than blow it on an engagement ring.

not to get on a soap box or anything....but there's one scene there when djimon saw a diamond displayed for the first time in a fancy shop...it just gave me a weird sinking feeling at the pit of my stomach.

u kno it's weird....this is really a violent type of movie...yet there were a lot of kids there...i kno they dont show even soft porn in qatar n cut off sexy scenes, but dont they have age restrictions for the amount of violence in the films here?

when djimon saw archer's pic on the magazine, it almost made me cry! u know what's kewl though...in one of the gory scenes, dulcinea screamed "Dio Mio!"...i thought it sounded kewl!lol!

<<In the meantime, five hours behind, I was waiting for Blood Diamond to start. I wasn't so sure I was going to like this movie. On its fifth minute I was hooked. There was so much going on in the movie, all things imaginable in a spectacular film. Action, heist, passion, family, romance, drama, love, and a more recent crowd favorite, gore. Each time there were scenes of bloody mutilation and genocide I feel sorry for the kids in the theatre. There were a dozen kids below ten years old when I watched and I can't believe their parents allowed them to watch such violence with caramel popcorn and blue slush.

The movie was terrific and moving and surprisingly, Leo didn't sound like his whiny self at all. He pulled it off quite well and I'm starting to feel nervous for my early Oscar favorite Ryan Gosling for Half Nelson.

Still thirsty for more, I decided to watch one more film, this time, Brian De Palma's Black Dahlia. I don't know if he's going for film noir. Chinatown and L.A. Confidential did a good job in this 50s Hollywood crime drama genre. Black Dahlia did not come close to the two greats. It was entertaining, but for the most part, the film seemed like an homage to 50s filmmaking rather than a film set in the 50s. Often I find myself noticing how great the set was or how authentic the costume was or how carefully the sequence was shot to mimic 50s style framing and staging. In LA Confidential you don't see these things because you are lost in the story and instead of seeing the era, you are feeling the era. Complete with detective narrator and wipe transitions, Black Dahlia never fails to remind the audience that the film is old. Black Dahlia was a grand scale costume party with supposedly heavyweight actors looking uncomfortable at best in their vintage Hollywood skin.

Our dear censors also made their presence felt. They cut out all the love scenes even the once that had narration which leaves the audience two steps behind the murder trail because of missing information. No wonder the arab world is perceived as violent, people here feed violence and gore to children but they hide the love and passion.>>

Yeah. Blood Diamond is for me one of last year's better films.

actually im glad they didnt pursue much the love angle in this film...kinda out of place with all that's going on and still take a few minutes off the story so that white people can play hide the salami.

The name Blood Diamonds, reminds me my neighbor who bought his wife a diamond ring for 15 thousand dollars, One year later got divorce and the bitch kept the diamond ring for good. That is what I called real blood diamond, not your blood, but your money being swept away in nothing for nothing.....
