i'm making a separate thread for its review as afterall it's 2.5 hours long and weeks of anticipation.
I enjoyed the film but could have done without the what felt like almost an hour (exaggeration for dramatic effect) of craig-green 'recuperating' scenes. craig and green's smartass banter was more entertaining, but what followed afterwards was the only part of the film that was cheesy and made me gag, but otherwise the film was good. i understand that the writers must have felt the need to give the highs n lows, cause or reinforcement of bond's misogynist's ways but....blech. Seriously, craig was good on raw edgy scenes and rough tumble but platitudes and love scenes?ick. ok, maybe porn too.
It's a flim almost independent of the bond franchise, as it seem to made a point to distance itself from the 'usual bond' every chance it gets, often to comical effect. which was good, and i think wasnt overplayed. if it werent for M, the soundtrack and the @#%@% man behind me who felt he had to compare out loud every scene to previous bond's film to his companion, i would have totally forgotten it's supposed to be a bond film. On one scene, a frazzled bond ordered a martini and the bartender asked if he wants it shaken or stirred and bond replied : do i look like i care?..hahaha!
they made craig do an 'ursula' scene coming out of the water in his trunks early on in the film. a refreshing scene for bond's followers when usually it is the women who own such scenes. i think it was a reminder to anyone and a special reassurance to women that though craig is a bit hard on the eyes facewise, he's got the body to make up for it...and the camera man made sure they made up for it. they took every opportunity to rub ur face in it. it's the first dick film ive seen where a male's body is praised, given attention to by both female and male actors..and the cameraman. i dunno if he's got a huge butt but the camera seems to pan on it a lot. it is a good butt though...but we get it already!...can we now move on to the fight scenes pls, i'll just watch soft gay porn on my other free time.
The chase track scene in the beginning was refreshing. the fight scenes were devoid of gadgets and made good use of craigs rough energy. i wish they had more of it. the next film should have more of it and the writers should think of more scenes where craig's face is beaten up. he looks good beat up and somehow cuts and bruises justifies his looks. the plot gets convoluted and dragged on a bit but otherwise it was an ok film. it's a dick film and not philosophy class so on its own category, an entertaining one. i still think of it as independent film though and has no basis for comparison as afterall it's supposed to be the "pre slick 007" film. If you are holding ur breath to compare this with previous bond film, i think you better wait for craig's sequel. One thing though, it's the first bond film that will at least make you feel afraid of bond instead of just watching his antics. he was alternately a tool and scary agent...and im not just referring to his face. Craig's a good actor.
One last take, since i like music......chris cornel's version is horrid!! if you are familiar with cornel's music from soundgarden days and fast forward to his last good song waiting like a stone i think u'll be most horrified. his bond's soundtrack is the gayest ever. ugh.
still, i think overall it's still a good excuse to go out n worth paying for in theater. i just hope there's a special theater section for mute people where i would gladly park a couch. if you wait for this on dvd, u might take a nap during the 'love' scenes.
click below for chris cornell with audioslave and kewl bass and drums..not the bond's orchestra wtf!
