Shakira. Shakira. Shakira. Shaggy. Shakira. Sean Paul. Shakira.
And I haven't even heard of most (read - ALL) of the stuff listed by Sugarcoma here. OK I heard of Alice Cooper. He's a nasty bugger with weird makeup. I had a poster of him once. But that was like 15 years ago ;D

Oh oh at least I know most of what Bajesus listens to ;D
So I am not totally out of it yet. I hope. Only it's mostly charts so that's not very sophisticated. It's radio material.

I'd like to point out that I've been a fan of James Blunt since well before he was famous. I saw him live back home in a venue with a 500 person capacity about 18 months back and he was very good. People kind of forget his album's been out for nearly 2 years now. When people get quite famous suddenly there's always a backlash, which is frustrating for the artist as well as those people who were fans before the masses.
I have a lot of artists on my mp3 I like who I would class as similar to James Blunt. Most people would class them as pretty decent, relatively unknown artists but if they suddently got massively famous they would probably be dismissed as MOR rubbish, which unfortunately seems to be the case with James Blunt

It's kind of a quandry cos I love discovering new bands and then promoting them to friends and letting them in on the 'secret'. However, if they then become massive it gets frustrating as everyone knows about them and it's no longer a secret!

And of course the moment they stop being a secret they become uncool. James Blunt is talented, there's a reason he hit it big. Unfortunatly it means you have to listen to him on the radio all the time and watch 12 year old girls screaming about him on TV. ;D

I didn't say anything about not liking James Blunt (eventhough I don't). I was just saying that you don't strike me as the James-Blunt-admiring type, aks. and I agree. It really irks me when i go into the trouble of discovering unknown bands, just to see them go public shortly afterwards. Greenday, Death Cab for The Cutie, The Killers, The Subways, etc... they were all great before they embraced the whole "Music for the Masses" craze..

Musicians don't only want to be great. They want recognition and money, too ;D
Can't blame them.
