Despite being in Portugeuse and having to read incredibly fast sub-titles, I enjoyed this movie a lot. Set in 1970's Rio de Janerio, City of God follows the story of a turf war between two rival gangs in Rio's biggest slum.
The story is told from the point of view of a guy named Rocket, who's ambition is to escape the City of God and become a photographer. He get's his dream by photographing the hoodlums that he lives with.
I can only imagine what the birth rate in the City of God must be in order to keep up with the death rate. I think everyone in this movie gets shot. Everyone and their dog has a gun.
The most touching stories are those of Bernie, the hoodlum with a heart, and the Runts, a gang of street kids, the youngest no more than 4 years old, who rob, smoke drugs, and kill.
Bit of blood, bit of nudity, an awesome job on the direction and the fact that it's a true story, make this easily a 9/10. ;D
