Snake, PM, Frenchie and me are watching Mighty Heart this afternoon - it stars Angelina Jolie as Daniel Pearl's wife. Daniel Pearl is the american journalist who was kidnapped and beheaded in Pakistan so we all know how it's gonna end. Supposedly this film focuses on how ppl from different countries/religions etc came together to help look for him. It's gonna be a lot of talk and anguish, no Samuel L. Jackson to motherf@#%@#@ save the day....ok snake?
I heard it's good, i hope it is!!!

if ur partner has been kidnapped, beheaded and cut up to 10 pieces - yeh that could be depressing. the movie was good though, it was about moving on and remaining humane despite the odds. ................and bully gets the perky pooper award!!!wahooooooooo!! |

i like that she did not become an emo bitch about it, and focused on finding him throughout the movie and didnt whine about being 5 mos pregnant while at it, i think that's kewl

Yes, she was and is still amazing.
BTW, there were some other controversies about this movie - about turning Daniel Pearl into some sort of hero and that the movie kind of potrayed him as a reckless journalist.

1. He wasn't reckless in the movie.
2. How is he a hero? He was a journalist, so he was probably trying to get some more recognition for himself.
3. Nobody got shot in the movie = bad movie

Asra Nomani - the other journalist- was the one who thought about all those controversies. Most of them, anyway.

after seeing the movie, i find all the criticisms about this film petty. it's not perfect, but the things some people would and had written about this film speaks more about them than the movie or the actors in it.

i didnt find anyone glorified nor justified in this film. i thought it was portrayed as detached and as pragmatic as it could get. it showed how ugly "journalists" could get during that scene when one asked her if she saw the video - that's the only time marianne slipped, understandably so. during the press con in cannes for this film, that same journalist tried to be funny and apologized to marianne, it was painful to watch coz the guy was still an @$$ about it.

I wouldn't go watch the movie if you paid me! Somehow movies about journalists being kidnapped, beheaded and chopped in many pieces while their pregnant French wives are looking for them aint really my thing. i like the movie but it's not something i would watch twice. I like the char of marianne pearl more. the movie is depressing, it makes ur imagination work more than spoon feed you, if u get into the plot really, u'll leave heavy. No showing of gory details at all but u'll just kno something awful happened/happening. they didnt show any lurid details only a pic of daniel pearl that was circulated in net when he was shackled. even that, marianne said he was smiling and in a way telling them to f-off. wouldnt recommend this film to anyone. |
